Mini-Dolphins
We are excited to offer the Mini-Dolphins Swim Program again this summer!
This program differs from swim lessons in that it does not teach the fundamentals of swimming to kids who have not been through lessons, but rather it is led by the Dolphins Swim Team coaching staff and is specifically designed to prepare your child for the full swim team experience.
The Mini-Dolphins Swim Program is intended for swimmers who want to join the team but aren't ready to compete in meets. By joining this program, the swimmers will increase their confidence in freestyle and backstroke and work towards being able to swim the length of the pool unassisted. Our Mini-Dolphins will not compete in regular meets until the Coach deems they are ready, as limited by ODSL rules (see below). They will be invited to all social events and participate in all regular team activities and practices. Mini-Dolphins will practice from 7:00-7:30pm in a lane just for this group. Our goal is for each Mini-Dolphin to move up into the main team during the season and compete in our swim meets. Volunteer hour requirements still apply to Mini-Dolphins families at a prorated rate. Mini Dolphins families will be required to volunteer 2.0 credits per eligible meet up to the 10.0 credits required for all Lovettsville Dolphins faimilies. We hope the Mini-Dolphins program is a positive and fun experience for all.
Swimmers must meet the following eligibility requirements and participate at the pre-season assessment to join the program:
- Be at least 5 years old and no older than 7 years old
- Be willing to separate from their parent during practice
- Have the necessary listening skills to take direction from coaching staff and be comfortable in a group instruction environment
- Be willing to enter the water and put their head underwater for 5-10 seconds
- Must be able to swim at least 10yds unassisted, not touching the bottom of the pool in at least 5 feet of water
- Be comfortable floating on front or back for 5-10 seconds
- Be fully potty trained
4.8.2. It is the intent of the League that all swimmers entered in an event have previously demonstrated their ability to successfully swim that event legally as defined by USA Swimming.
